Block Spammers was created by Angelica Dinh
Hello,

We just created a new website and this is my first time using K2. In the past, I have used other blogging plugins but thought I would try something different. I've been coming across A TON of spamming issues. Is there anyway to block them or add a capchta to my blog page?

Hi,

Can you clarify what you mean? Are you talking about the comments system ? Leaving the comments system open to anyone without spam protection is not a good thing. K2 integrates two famous antispam solutions, reCAPTCHA and Akismet.

Choose which one of them you prefer and just add the API keys in K2 parameters.

Hi I have the same problem, Can I firstly request that the parameters are set as safely as possible as default. That would have prevented my problem and others who are new to this.

Now I have thousands of unwanted spam comments I can see them in K2 Comments and can delete them 100 at a time but I have tens of thousands.
What is the best way for me to remove these as quickly as possible.

I have looked in the database tables but the comments do not show in comments table.

Please help

@Brian

If you have not entered any other data to K2, you can simply uninstall and then install it again. If you have access to MySQL you can delete all comments with the following command:
TRUNCATE #__k2_comments

Note that you have to replace the #_ part with the actual prefix of your database tables.

Hi

I had the same problem and I have deleted all comments from the data base.
But, lots of robots keep visiting the site and as a result, they increase the executions of the host account, sometimes to over limit.
I have denied many IPs (but this, of course, is not effective enough)
I have tried through .htaccess, but even this is not enough.

Is there anything else I can do to force those robots to forget the “playground” they had found?

Thanks

If htaccess didn't do the trick, you can try robots.txt www.robotstxt.org/robotstxt.html

Furthermore you should let your hosting provider know about this.
