Can't upload images - Cache issue as well was created by Shawn
To start - I too have the k2 items and categories not showing up in the admin list view.

I cannot upload and image through the item, and the browse server feature is returning

"Invalid backend response.
Data is not JSON."

This means that something is breaking the JSON file.
Try disabling error reporting since PHP warnings can cause this issue.
