This is on a different site and different web host than my other ongoing query.

When trying to filter items in K2's admin panel, some search terms return search results, others do not.

I've added three attachments to this post.

1) Shows all items in the K2 backend

2) Shows a filtered list using the term 'space'

3) Shows a filtered list using the term 'third'

As you can see from #1 and #2, the term 'third' is prevalent in the items list. It's not a case issue as 'Space' is always listed using an uppercase 'S' and the filtered list appears to be case-insensitive.

I've noticed this on a couple of other K2 sites I've been working on, where some terms seem to just return zero results despite being visible.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem? I am experiencing exactly the same. In the admin panel I can't find certain items by using the filterbox, even though I know the articles are there. This incredibly frustrating.

Any help is much apprciated.

Hi. K2 uses MySQL Full text search capabilities. The word "third" is a stopword. For more information on this please read at dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/fulltext-stopwords.html.

Hi Lefteris,

Can you think of any reason why the word "Mia" doesn't work in search? It doesn't appear to be in the standard stopwords list.

I have a presenter on my client's site who is unfindable if their first name OR full name is used - her first name is "Mia".

@Kelsey Brookes

It's because MySQL by default indexes words of 4 characters length or more. Please take a look at dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/fulltext-fine-tuning.html for more information on this.

My apologies Lefteris, I should have mentioned that I'd already ruled that potential issue out, our server appears to be configured to accept 3-letter words.

For example, a search on "Jon" returns results that are relevant and accurate.

Has the item containing the "Mia" phrase is added after you tweaked MySQL? If so the MySQL indexes need to rebuilt to include the new phrases.

No - we're doing a rebuild of an existing site and I was surprised to discover that 3-letter search was already enabled.

Here's what I've noticed so far:

1) If I search on "Mia Freedman" or "Mia" (without the quotes), I get no results.
2) If I search on Freedman, the correct result is returned
3) If I search on "Anh" or "Anh Do", I get the correct result both times (Anh Do).
5) If I search on "Jon" I get results like "Jon Petz", "Jonas Riverdale", "Jonathan Travis" - all of which are good results

I've attached a series of screenshots to explain.
