The pagination is available only for the items listed in a category, not the sub-categories. The sub-categories are all shown.

The inheritance is a big issue for K2. It provides tremendous flexibility over the categories.

In version 3 of K2 we have added more global options for the category's parameters which combined with the inheritance options you will result the ultimate package of your content management.

I, we all, need ALL the options you can set in the category parameter in the global parameters too, like joomla content component.

If you use the Catalog mode in your parent category you can do that.

OK I will describe it in a little more detail.

What you need to do is to setup your parent category to work in catalog mode. The option to enable that is located in Category Item Layout -> Other Layout Options, Catalog mode. Set it to Yes. Once you do this only the items directly belonging to this category will be retrieved and it will work properly if you don't have any items assigned to the parent category.
