Need help with fake user registrations

Hello everyone,

I have ReCaptcha enabled during user registration on a website. Yet, it is not stopping hackers from creating fake user accounts. I have not been able to establish if these are bots or actual people, however I keep getting new users who register and successfully double-opt-in. All clearly fake.

I need help with
A: Installing Google's new No Captcha ReCaptcha
B: Switching to a different more powerful captcha

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Jose

The current version of K2 does not support noCaptcha, you can use reCaptcha instead.

You can setup reCaptcha from K2's advanced settings.

I already have ReCaptcha setup and active and it is not stopping fake registrations. Then, other than the standard Joomla captcha, does K2 support another captcha system? (like answer a question or slide a graphic, etc.).

If you have already Joomla!'s captcha enabled, then it means that actual users are registering in your site.
You can also enable stopforumspam.com in the registration page for an additional layer of protection.

Krikor,

With all due respect, I don't think you're understanding what is going on. Let me explain again:

I have a website that uses K2
K2 has ReCaptcha enabled
ReCaptcha is working in the sense that a new user cannot register without entering the ReCaptcha information
ReCaptcha is not stopping fake user registrations. See image below of two recent obviously fake registrations (I disabled them)

I need a different solution to stop hackers.

I do understand.
That is why I asked you to enable stopforumspam.
Did you enable it?

If they get past recaptcha, it means that they possibly are humans. This means that they will get past nocaptcha as well.

I just enabled it. But, if I'm reading the pop-up dialog correctly, all that does is give me ability to report a user as a spammer, which then locks/blocks their account. These fake accounts are most likely using different username/email address/IP combinations. Right?

Does K2 support FunCaptcha?

No K2 only supports reCaptcha and stopforumspam.
Since this view uses Joomla!'s core hooks you can try this extension as well.
