I just tried it again - Placing the folder between the {gallery}{/gallery} tags.
And it works!

I think there is a conflict with some previously installed plugins. Even though they were not enabled, your gallery worked after I uninstalled the other photo gallery plugins.

Yes I have the plugin set the way you have asked with the images in the "hollywoodbowl" folder that resides inside images/stories. the "images/stories" is the path stated within the plugin but no joy
