thumbnails aren't showin up. Help! was created by Lefteris

Hello,

I've implemented Simple Gallery onto my site and it was working fine. Now, all of a sudden, I cannot see my thumbnail pics. I can only see the small square placeholders for all of them. If I click on one of them, I can see the full size images, however.
How come the thumbnail images aren't showing up?

Check permissions and also make sure the pictures you're using aren't .png files (thumbnails don't work for .png).

Thanks for your reply, marcm. My images are all .jpgs. It's strange because they were showing up just fine before but a few weeks later, they're not. I have not done any editing to the code or anything. Could it be something to do with my web hosting?

Hi,

my thumbnails are still not showing up, even after I changed the permission of the file, "showthumb.php" to 777. Any other ideas?

I'm another one having this problem. I have had a few galleries up for some time working just fine, and now the thumbs aren't working. File permissions are fine (again untouched from originally working).

I am my own host and have only patched Joomla to 1.0.15. That is the only change, even then I'm not sure if it's what is causing the issue.

In IE7 the thumbs are red boxes, but once clicked display fine. In Firefox of course I get empty little grey boxes, once clicked the image comes up.

Also I noticed in the >>PLEASE READ THIS FIRST <<< somebody saying that "SIG is not supported by Joomla! yet." posted on February 25, 2008. Is this now true?

Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome.

Same here folks. Everything was fine up until today. Using JPGs and the site hasn't been touched prior to the loss of the thumbnails. Makes me think it has to be the webhost, but I'm not sure what to ask them.

Okay, I had several galleries that were working fine and without any changes being made, they all stopped working. No thumbnails. Just the red x.

i changed permissions to 777 (which i didn't really want to do, but tried it) i changed permissions on the photos and showthumbs.php file.

no change. Any ideas???

Same problem. I notice that PHP 5.2.6 just came out on May 1, I wonder if web hosts are starting to upgrade (mine is now running 5.2.6) and there is some incompatibility between SIG and PHP

that is a good possibility. I checked and many of my permissions were too great. I contacted my host and they said possibly a security update they did.

Reguardless, i reset all my permissions and everything is fine now.

directories 755, files 644

I'm not exactly sure what I did (if anything), but mine is working now too. I wonder if the upgraded PHP had a setting that needed to be relaxed by the hosting provider in order for things to work right.

Alternatively, it could have been my upgrade to SIGPro, but that didn't work initially either.

I'm having this issue as well only in IE7. When the page loads, the thumbnails show up for a fraction of a second and then vanish, leaving behind the border and shadows on the page.

For those of you who have gotten this to work again, could you explain any changes that you made (and give the location of the files you are editing).

Is it only happening on the front page? I've found that front page is all screwy, but if I go directly to the blog post I'm in good shape. I wonder if there is something in the Frontpage module that would be causing this. Off to try more troubleshooting.

I got a chance today to see if the images show up in IE6, and they do. So this indicated that it's most likely a script issue with IE7. Anyone know what this might be?

Is there anyone here from JoomlaWorks that can help? How am I supposed to use your plugin if it only works in Firefox and IE6? Only 20% of my visitors are able to see the images!

I know it's not really what anyone wants to hear, but I took the opportunity to migrate my site to Joomla 1.5. It was painful for an afternoon, but all in all it was worth it, seeing as how my site now works...
