But what is best practive, to code, if I have a local .swf File and would like to show users without flash-player installed an alternate .gif

I am afraid this is not possible.

So there has to be a hand coded Solution. I guess with the object or video tag.

I'll try, but I don't want to use a fixed width or height ...
