the video could not be loaded was created by sashido
Hi!

I have a problem. I'm not sure what's causing it. I try to publish a mp4 video on this page

www.ourenglishclass.eu/

but I get no video, but the notification: The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported: www.ourenglishclass.eu/images/videos/-003.mp4undefin

Could anyone please help me? I saw on this forum someone who had the same issue, but there, no answers to this topic.....  :(

Thanks in advance!

Replying to myself.... in case that someone will run into the same issue....

That was actually the issue of codec - the H.264. They talk a lot here about this codec issue... I think that it can be usefull to put it in the documentation, so far many people run into the problems because of this very codec issue....

I have downloaded the VLC media player (this is for free) and converted my video file in mpg4, choosing the desired H.264 codec option. After uploading the new converted file- it worked just fine!

This link was very helpfull - followed the instructions and here you are!

blogs.msdn.com/b/giorgio/archive/2011/01/13/tip-how-to-encode-a-video-to-h-264-mp4-or-vp8-webm.aspx

PS. Yet, just that I thought that I have solved the problem - I get another one  >:(- the video is showing up, but the sound is not.... Also the video works in Chrome, but not in Firefox....

HELP! :-\

Hello sashido.

Firefox does not support h.264 videos yet. As for the sound can you try with the .mp3 format as well?

Hi,

thank you for the hint!

indeed that is what you say - codecs.

As I've written above I have downloaded the VLC player/decoder or whatever and there you have the option to check which codecs are used both for video and audio.

Also by converting you can manually choose which codecs you wish to be applied....

So fI've converted my poor avi to mp4 manually choosing H.264 codec for video and mp3 codec for audio (as default they use MPEG AAC)....

So after it was done, the video seems to play correctly... in Chrome....

BUT you say that for Firefox it wouldn't work either.... Which format is then the most supported???? the one which will work for the most browsers? Isn't it a good idea to put these things into the docs actually???

Thank you! :-)

.f4v is the most common format for desktop browsers.

My personal opinion is that if you want 100% fully browser compatible IE/FF/Chrome/Adnroid/Win Mobile/iOS etc etc.. you can have to upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo.

Otherwise you will have to encode several versions of the same video.
