You need to translate K2.
getk2.org/extend/translations

Simply install the language pack you need.

Yes you need to follow the instruction in this tutorial
magazine.joomla.org/issues/Issue-Nov-2011/item/593-Build-a-Multilingual-Site-in-Joomla-1-7

You have to specify your site's frontend language as well.
