I'm brand spanking new to K2 and still trying to decide if its useful to me.

Today I downloaded and installed the current release candidate and I am having trouble uploading an item photo. I go to the image tab, select the image and click save. The browser works for a while saying "waiting for [site]..." then stalls. I get a blank screen and no browser activity. When I return to the item page the photo has not uploaded.

Is this a bug or a problem with my installation. What other information should I include to help find out?

Ahh, turned on show errors and got this:

( ! ) Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in [...]/administrator/components/com_k2/lib/class.upload.php on line 4855

Now I need to know if this is a problem with K2 or my server settings....

Try searching php.ini in your sites root for "max_execution_time = 30"
Increase it until the problem goes away

Hmm, ok that may work on my local testing server (MAMP) but I don't think I can change those settings on the production server, a shared account at justhost.

I tried uploading a php.ini file but it had no effect.

Aren't most people having this problem then?

on your mamp installation....find the line in php.ini and edit it, if that works then on your live shared server, contact your host and get them to change it

I upped execution to 60, and then I got this error.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3600 bytes) in /Users/benbogart/Sites/tangojamdev/radiance/administrator/components/com_k2/lib/class.upload.php on line 3161

So I upped the memory_limit as well.

With the same settings on the production server (30 sec and 64Mb) I have no problem uploading the images. (which is good because there I can't change the settings).

Why so much memory and time demand to upload a 1Mb image?

Getting images to upload may be a server issue, but when people are looking at them, thats another issue...Will your site load more quickley with a 1mb image or with an image optomized for the web? This is interesting reading . There are sometimes good reasons for putting large images...the question is usually when?

Yep, I agree with all that. The question was why does K2 suck up more than 32MB of memory and run for more than 30seconds to upload and save a 1MB image?

I too am getting this error - recent update to Joomla 2.5 with K2 2.5.1 I can not upload an image using the image tab upload in K2. I can upload an image in the category image tab. Getting the error "

Hi, I was having the same issue, but discovered it was related to the size of the image (dimensions) not the physical size. I resized the image and the upload worked first time.
