I have been told that k2 can do this, but I can `t figure out how.

I need to create a preset content template with 2 columns. not every item will require this, so it has to be selectable as an option when a content item is being created.

if someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Hi,

you can't do that by item but by item category.

You can set a category layout to display items on the number of columns you want in the category details in the K2 backend.

I`m not sure I `m following you.

If I set a category template to 2 columns it will display items in the category in 2 columns - but I need the content item itself to have 2 columns - is this possible with k2?

If you are using j1.5 you might try content templater from nonumber.nl. It isnt avail for 1.7 yet, and im not sure if it works when k2 loads the editor, but worth a look if your still in j1.5

yes the content templater ROCKS - that is exactly what I am looking for, unfortunately it is not joomla 1.7 compliant (yet) so I am looking for a plan b

in the joomla forum it was suggested that k2 could do this, but I guess not.

If your working from the back end, create a template item
Copy it and use it over and over again
If your working from front end editing, simplest to wait until the plugin is updated
