J1.7 - Why use K2 user groups? was created by David Green
Hi
I guess this is a real NOOB question, but given the enhanced User rights in J1.7 what benefit is there from using the K2 user groups?

From the little I have read on this, (Simon Says web site) it appears to be for givin users enhanced access rights over the old J1.5 system - is this not a little redundant now?

Many thanks for your comments.

If you want to control front end editing you will need k2 usergroups and permissions.

Thanks William

From what you are saying, I presume therefore the Joomla ACL is no longer used as you recreate all the permissions in the User Groups in K2.

So - to be clear K2 is more of a replacement for some of the Core functionality of Joomla than an enhancement of what ships out of the box.

Sorry if this sounds a basic thing to say, but I find it easier to learn things if I get the basics right, right from the start.

Thanks for the advice
Dave
