Create a new menu in the Joomla menu manager. In there, create menu links to K2 item form (it's the form for frontend editing). You can create many such links and preselect the category which will show as active, when your users click on each form.
The go into the "K2 User" module and select to render this new menu you just created. The module will make sure these links open in modals too ;)
It's exactly how we do it on getk2.org - mod_k2_user is the module that powers the user toolbar at the top (when you're logged in).

I have followed the instructions to create a Menu item to "item edit form" and the menu item is appearing in my K2 Users menu, but when I click the link, I get a "403 - You are not authorized to view this resource."
I have the access for the link set to Registered... I checked to make sure the user's level of access is not the problem by testing it on a SuperUser and also tried a user that is set to Registered/Author, but no different.
I hope you can tell me what I am doing wrong here. Site is to launch this Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012.
Thank you,
tmsr

Figured it out.
Found this: be sure you set the Post New Item to allow in your Backend K2 Usergroup.
Created a K2 User Group for my K2 Users and set the permissions to allow adding an item to my blog). Then the Add a Post link worked...
