I'm setting up a custom itemform.php and would like to make the title to link to an external URL.

I thought about stripping the alias from relative to absolute, but would that cause issues with the item URL creation? Would it?

How would I create the extra field? I would copy the code from the title alias and need to change the

input class and
value

in the php. What else would I need to do to get this to work?

OR would it better to set it up so that I use the item page created and have a redirect from there to the external URL? Can this be set up automatically from the itemform.php?

All my items are displayed in categories and are short, less than 50 words with an external link for more info.
