hi , im a newb and a i would appreciate a little of help , i have installed k2 and im trying to configure it out to show how i need it to be , i want to build a food recipes catalog, with many categories, how i can please show the categories at the front page as table with columns and rows , in every row a category name only , later when someone click in the category it will open the category layout

For a start, try turning everything in the Master Category "Item View in Category Listings" to hide except title. It probably wont be a table but may look similar to what you want. You can also use overrides to customize that view
