Hi all,

I'd like to have your advices, opinions, critiques how I use the k2.
I really new to this K2, I'm building a community web with a News feature. It's joomla 1.7+Jomsocial+JSPT+Jreviews and PhpBB3 for forum (I'm thinking to use Kunena)
And I'd like to use K2 for this News feature.

So, after lil bit confuse about K2, I tried to give it a try.
I leave k2 config as is after instalation, for now.

My site will have 3 profiles (made and controlled by JSPT and Jomsocial, I'm still figuring out the Joomla ACL) :

1. Personal Profile
2. Manufacture
3. Dealer

I want also a group of Contibutors who have ability/permission to submit a news, let's call it a Press Desk News. This Contributors group only consist of Personal Profile type users.
Manufacture and dealer news will have its own category news and only Manufacture and Dealer profile type can submit news there.

I create a user group in K2 : Contributors, then I choose some of Personal profile type users to this group. << Is it the correct way to assign some of users as contributors?

Than I create 3 K2 categories with Parent Cat : News :

NEWS
- - Manufacture News
- - Dealer News
- - Press Desk

Then in main menu, I create a menu type K2>Categories and call it : NEWS. << Is it correct to choose this menu type for magazine/news?


I logged in as a user (which is in contibutors group) in frontend and try the news menu :



I tried to remove the "Children Categories" with no luck << How to do this?

Why I can't see a "submit" button? I logged in as contributors user.

Other things I'd like to know :
Personal Profile Type is the default profile type in my site, it has limited features than Manufacture/Dealer type. I'd like to have Manufacture/Dealer has abilty to make their own news, Is it possible to auto assign Manufacture/Dealer to each k2 group?

Maybe I need to stop in this step first (giant step for me)..anybody willing to elaborate/share?

it seems you are on the right track.
I think there is an integration for users of Jomsocial and K2 that may be usefull.

Go to the K2 user groups and set the permissions there in k2 and set them as you like
When user is logged in you should see an add new item in the login module and also a edit item in the item display

To remove children categories - do an override or K2 template and edit category.php and or category_item.php, just search for the text and remove it.
