Do I understand correct when it comes to items (articles), that you have to choose ether you will use the Joomla article system or K2 system. It is impossible to use both at the same time.
(it should be a quick answer on that I think)

You can absolutely use both at the same time, your choice of what to use is done via the menu option (pointing to K2 items or Joomla articles)... Unless you have very specific reasons, I'd avoid it unless you want to have to manage 2 different systems (template overides, publishing dates, etc....)
