Hi!

I'm an Intermediate Joomla user with a limited understanding of php. I've been searching this forum for answers the last couple of days, but figured I had to post myself.

I'm trying to compile a relatively simple catalog using K2. Adding categories, items, fields etc seems pretty easy. What I'm struggeling with is designing the correct "flow" for my site. I've attached a very very simple illustration on what I'm thinking.

My main challenge is that I have not yet managed to create a module with the category images working as buttons. The plan is to display this module on the frontpage only.

I suspect my next challenge will be to display a "Sub-category menu" - as displayed in fig-2 in my chart.

With these two steps working, the third challenge would be to display the item page with a slightly different layout for the template.

The "non-product-categories" I was thinking could be regular Joomla categories. Now is that a good or a bad idea ...?

I understand that I have to build this stuff myself [ :unsure: ], but I would very much appreciate a few pointers that could make my next couple of days slightly less frustrating B)

Even if you dont create a module for the front page, K2 will display similar to that ont eh front page depending on your template and its settings.
I would keep all of it in k2 items

The only thing I seem to be able to produce is a bulleted list from the K2 Tools module - with all featured items underneath --> www.helgelandsmoen.no/myhrvold/ (test-site).

Finding this quite frustrating after spending two days in the community, watching abour 2 hours of video and reading loads of articles. I'm not really that slow with Joomla (or Wordpress for that matters).

K2 features seems perfect for my project (and my next project), but if its this hard to customize flow...What are you guys favorite guides (preferably those focusing on "Catalog mode")?

First hide the module that displays the bulletted list.
Next do a k2 override and customize category.php (set it with an image and text you want in the category or hide them)
In the subcategory display hide everything except what you want to show
Place the subcategory images (all the same size) in the subcategories
next take a look at category_item.php and its display
and lastly use item.php for the final item display

I finally understood how the consept of sup-templating within K2 works. Got it set up with 4 subtemplates in no time and understand the process you are referring to in your reply. It's very smart and easy to use ...

... IF you are able to hard code your own templates.

For us not so clever guys, I guess K2 is pretty useless :(

When in catalog mode, should not a basic category view display by default on the front page?

Making it look good should be a breeze, but as long as it's not there I feel quite lost.

Hm. I'd like to get my hands on that source code. Maybe then I could get my head around this thing.

They say it'll be released this month - so I'll be on the lookout.

I think maybe it would be very helpfull also if getk2.org would release the source code (category.php especially) for this demo site: demo.getk2.org/en/catalog ... ?

BTW: do you know a good resource/reference on Joomla!/K2 templating? I know several good PHP/MySQL resources, but would like to find some resource with more Joomla! related issues.
