I think I found a way to address this issue, but it needs some work. The essence of the solution is as follows:

1) remove the template generic.php class clr;
2) to specify k2.css adopt the following: div.itemContainer {float: left; width: 200px;}

The problem arises from the fact that the ugly sprawl results in two columns in the selection to display the information field. Can anyone suggest what should be corrected in the k2.css ?
