I have a category listing with 1000+ items. the item counter shows up on the backend yet when on frontend i have category name(0). is that a problem with k2 or joomla?

do i need to take extra steps do display items published in category?
the backend of k2 has articles published , category published
the frontend reads "category_name" (0)
