Hi new here, done joomla site now trying to get to grips with k2 since the the possibilities look impressive.

This is really a proper beginner problem I would imagine.

I have a category and item set up but need to attach to a menu selection. I have set up 3 out of 5 menu items as k2 category from select menu type. When I try and link my category with the item in, the category is showing on all three menu items even though I have selected one category to link to the menu selection.

What am I doing wrong.

joomla 2.5.3,
k2 2.5.5

Menu Item Type should be categories

On the right, under Basic Options select the one category you want to link to.

If you have subcategories, you have to adjust the setting in the K2 component for what you want to display.

The menu selections were set up as category from the k2 menu selection.

The item was pointing to a category.

The category was then linked to the menu, as you described.

The category folder with the item was showing on the correct menu selection, which I think is ok so far.

BUT the item only is now showing in the other 2 menu selections in the main menu, how do I stop this item from displaying in the other 2 menu selections.

My menu is the system main menu with the beez2 template set up as follows.

Main- single article joomla
2nd select- k2 category
3rd selection-k2 category
4th selection- k2 category
5th selection- contact form joomla
