Ok, My title is not the best one but I will try to give a good explanation of my problem

I need to create a page that displays ALL items sorted by year.

For example: (the items in this example should be links to the page of the item)

2012:

Item1
item2
item3

2011:

Item1
item2
item3
item4
item5

2010:
item1
item2

The only way I can do it is to create modules that get the rss feed from the tag and displaying that.

Is there another (better) way to do this?

Update:
The rss way does not work. Because of the many feeds they time out. I keep getting an error on the larger feeds.
Any ideas for a better method to do this?

Make categories called 2012 2013 2014?

Why wouldn't that work?
