Hi I am pretty sure it's supposed to work out of the box, maybe it's an issue with this particular joomla version 2.5.4 I am not sure, It's hard to tell when cannot see the problem, my feeling is it sounds like a user rights problem if the add item is not displaying after you created the menu link.
