huge media/k2/cache folder was created by Stathis Katsoulas
Hello everybody! I need help, for my site. There is a huge cache folder in media/k2. It's about 1GB of data (images thubs). Is this the reason that my site has a very bad page load time? Could I delete the content of cache folder? Is it better to use a plugin about cache cleaning?

I'm pretty sure that's where K2 stores the resized images that are actually displayed on the frontend.

K2 dynamically resizes your images (depending on your settings). These resizes have to be generated and stored somewhere. I'm guessing media/k2 is where.

Manuel Kuhs is correct. This is not cache, this directory contains the resized images. If you delete it you will lose the item images.

I too have a 1GB+ media/k2 folder.
I understand its resized images for k2 items and categories however from a glance I know a decent portion of these are from items/categories that are no longer in use. It seems K2 has not deleted these image resources along with the database entries - is there a procedural way to clean this directory to only images used, or to regenerate referenced images in a new folder so these can be removed?

Thanks,
Casey

No, I'm afraid not.
What you can do is to delete the contents of the src folder to reduce the size of the media/k2/images folder.

Hello in everyone. I am reading this in 2017! Has anything changed about that? I mean is there any way to easily delete images from articles (k2 item) that no longer exist! Thanks In advance!!

Hello,
i have the same problem.
Image from principal k2 element is wrong. For one bad resolution and the other bad loading.
I try a rebuildt.php script found on another forum.
Nothing change.
An idea ?
Thanks

Hello,

Make sure that you have the correct params in the category's settings.
Also make sure that any CSS from the template you are using are not stretching the image.
