Upgrading modified K2 with custom templates was created by Robert Rosario
Hi guys,
I'm a noob and I have worked really hard on my sites look and feel by editing the K2 CSS and had someone add K2 templates for a few categories. I want to upgrade K2 to the newest version but need all my work to transfer over too. What can I do??
Can I back up the current K2 and reinstall it if upgrading fails??

One option is to create a custom.css file containing all your changes and load it after the other css files load. This will overwrite earlier CSS settings. It;s a good way of ensuring that you won't blow away changes every time you update components.
If you're using a Joomlashack template it's even easier: copy your K2 CSS to templates/{YourTemplateName}/css/custom.css. It gets loaded after all the other CSS files have been loaded.
Other templates may use the same technology - not sure which do and which don't.
Al the best with it!

Good Tips! I'm not a coder by nature, I'm a designer so making a css from scratch could be an issue! lol Does the Gantry templates have this built in? If so, I'm in the clear I think!
Thank you for the help.

Upgraded and no problem. I did however have to edit the K2.css file again. Oh well.
One MAJOR problem though! I CANT EDIT ANY ITEM OR CATEGORY. I get:
500 - An error has occured.
unable to load format class
Starting to think this was a big mistake.

This is what I did to use my own css:
Copy the k2 css to your template css folder
add css link to header, so that is loads when you page loads
disable K2 default CSS in K2 settings
