Re: K2 (Sub-)Templating Using Different Templates was created by Casimir de Bruijn
Okay, so.. The text in my earlier topic wasn't showing for no reason so here is the problem again, this time a little shorter :)

I've read the article @ getk2.org about templating & subtemplating your K2-powered Joomla! website and it left me with some issues. As the title says I'm using multiple templates on 1 site and that works out in the default Joomla! templating just fine. Now here was the tricky part, I am designing my website to work with different colors bound to different menu items (or, in K2's case, categories).

So, following that tutorial didn't give me satisfactory results and that might be because i'm letting it communicate with more than 1 template in my collection. Here's an example of my structure:

.../templates/TEMPLATE1/html/com_k2
.../templates/TEMPLATE2/html/com_k2
.../templates/TEMPLATE3/html/com_k2

Where the tutorial stops after just the first template. Now, copying the folder as described in that tutorial (.../components/com_k2/templates) only works on the first template I applied it too. In other words, when I'm in the backend and try to bind a template to my category only "TEMPLATE1" shows up..

Maybe I am missing the most obvious solution, I don't know. Hope you guys can help me out here :)

Hi Casimir de Bruijn,

You can only assign one override for each category and change the way the category displays the view, if you want to use different joomla templates with different css files then you need the set the Menu Items - Template Style to that particular template.

Getting back on this, there is no way to get those different templates to work assigned to categories? There must be something we could do to also style the K2 categories and not only the J! menus, right?

Hi. You can make several copies of the default K2 template and place them under /templates/YOUR_SITE_TEMPLATE/html/com_k2. You can name them using color names. For example you will end up in a structure like this:

/templates/YOUR_SITE_TEMPLATE/html/com_k2/red
/templates/YOUR_SITE_TEMPLATE/html/com_k2/green
...etc

Now you just need to assign the desired template to the categories you like. This can be done in the category edit page.
