Changing item's author by another non-super-user! was created by Mahmoud Al-Husseiny
When I'm logged in as a super user I can change the default the author in any item, I add, which, in that case, would be me. But I need to know how to pass this feature to other user groups without having to grant them super user access.

This is very important, because in a news portal for instance, the data entry personnel, submit the articles of many authors and columnists, who can't do it themselves, thus there has to be a way to give them access to the k2 users panel, and note that I already gave them full access to the core joomla users panel, yet they still can't access k2's or change any item's default author.

So, If there's any way; be it a set of tips or procedures, a trick or a hack, or a snippet of code that I have to add, to solve this dilemma, please tell me about it ASAP.

Create a K2 user group for them. You can define which rights they shall have.

Hi Katharina,
Thanks for your reply, but the options included there are very basic, and they only let me grant permissions regarding who can or cannot submit content from the back or front end, and whether they can edit or publish it, etc. Nothing more. I reckon the issue is a little more complicated than this.

I guess "editing" includes the change of the author. Are you sure that it doesn't? :woohoo:

You have much more possibilities if you use the rights management of Joomla! But it's a bit complicated. I know a very good tutorial in GERMAN but I'm sure there are tutorials in English, too.

Sorry, I tried this and that but couldn't find a quick solution for you. :(

You have to deal with the rights management of Joomla. Maybe this tutorial can help you:
docs.joomla.org/ACL_Tutorial_for_Joomla_1.6 (it's for Joomla! 2.5 as well)

Maybe you can ask in the Joomla Forum: forum.joomla.org/

Hi,
i have the same problem here.
With joomla 1.5 there is no problem, but in joomla 2.5 it's not possible to change author, only if a user is "Super Admin".
Is there any solution for this? It's not good idea to give "super admin" access to every author...

This has been fixed in the SVN. Grab the SVN version or wait for the next release.
