Hi,
I am using Joomla 2.54 and K2 2.5.7 with JCE

Every time I try to insert an image inside the item text with the image manager for JCE it disappears (either on save or sometimes it seems like the text area is refreshing as it goes blank)

I have tried with Joomla articles and it works fine but not with K2

Am I missing something in the configuration?

You didn't mention your JCE version. Just tested with the latest one and found no issues. So try to update JCE and check your page for possible javascript errors.

JCE is latest 2.1.3

Edited in the end without editor and it works so it must be related to this.

Is the image visible in the editor after you save? If the image is visible after the save but dissapears in the front-end then check that you have not applied the word limit filter in item introtext. Word limit functionality will strip all HTML code from the introtext.
