Author Alias not reflected in Category view was created by Travis Prebble
When using the K2 Content module, the Author Alias set for an Item is not reflected in the list. It instead shows the name of the Item Author.

When viewing the Item in full, the Author Alias is used.

I've noticed the same thing.

Not showing the Author Alias in Content Module. Shows Author instead.

This is also an issue in K2 Tools Module> Authors List Settings

This module displays article counts for Authors, even when the Author Alias is selected.

It also doesn't list Aliased Authors at all.

No it's not working in version 2.1 (Sep 09, 2009), as far as it concerns K2 Tools module. There must be some problem, I have an article added by a registred publisher but we want to use the alias for "guest authors", but the author alias doesn't show in the author list module.

Help needed

OK, I found another answer that explained that it only works with registered authors. But is it possible to expand the module to also show author alias as authors? It would be a nice feature.

I like this component more and more!

I agree, Author alias is a must for sorting and displays.

Hi. Author alias cannot be used as a filter in the module. I really don't see any logic behind this. If you need this you can create a dummy user and assign items to him.

For example: A magazine has serveral authors of articles, but they are not users in the system - they even should not be users, and they vary from time to time so it's not feasable to create dummy users for everyone. When the admin creates the article it would be nice to put an alias and make it work as if it was a user. I have used this a lot in the core Joomla application so why not in K2?

Yes exactly as Matt says. I'm managing a site that has 1000 articles and about 30% are different authors. None with computer skills. I would have, well i did have to create about 40 new fake users to add their articles just so they could be searched by author. A lot of unnecessary work.

We are in the same situation, you and I.
I think the module should provide a tool to show articles by authors/aliases as well as by users.

Would be nice to know if there are any plans to implement such a feature in future versions of K2. V 2.3 doesn't have it.

Agreed... I'm actually stunned this isn't a standard feature.
Particularly when beginning a site and you want to pre-populate but you want to add content AS IF it was from another Author.
Please Fotis, this should be a feature.

Thanks for your support.

This is my case right now: For five months I've been administrating a magazine website that has five publishers/editors that produces articles in their own name, but mostly they publish articles from other authors: journalists, writers etc. It's not feasable to create users for these rather many external authors - the site can't be run by administrators, it's the editors that have that knowledge of external authors and should publish the articles using the author alias.

As time goes the external authors contribute with more and more articles. At this moment, there's already a demand for listing each authors articles. As fas I understand this would best be solved if there was at least a way to pick up the author alias along with the author (users) and use this information as a joint criteria in the K2 module.

I am a poor PHP programmer so I am not able to figure out how to get the author alias variable into the module code. Hopefully anyone with this knowledge might solve it, or tell me why it's not possible.

Otherwise, K2 is a brilliant component for magazine websites

This is a very important feature (there are several threads about this), as far as I see it, but I haven't heard anything about if it will be addressed in a future release.
