One of the cool things about K2 is that ability to pick one category setup that you use that the other category can inherit the params from.

I forget why, but I was finding it hard to remember which category was the "mother" category. This would even be more true in a multi admin/author environment. It might be tough to remember that the params were inherited from one of many categories made long ago.

So I decided to create Template Categories (no items in these categories).

Param Template - Events
Param Template - Stores

Now I set all my inheritable params in a param template category and then set my other categories to inherit from template.

You can even make a parent category to hold all your param templates if your site is that broad.

Have I got this right?

An empty category named using one of the names above - with all the params set as required -but no items assigned to it.
Then the real categories inherit their settings from whichever one you choose from?
