Can anyone explain the difference between an Item and a Featured Item? What does featuring an item do?

Hi, if i am not mistaking featuring marks item as featured - you have addition after item title text featured is added.
And also when making a link to show category which has subcategories you can choose to show only featured items below subcategory blocks. Also there is same feature - show only featured items in categories but, still have to figure that one

What Erebrum said makes absolutely no sense to me...what does the act of marking an item as "Featured" actually accomplish???

I am using featured as an additional filter to easily highlight/group important articles on a site using 'show only featured items' in various modules etc

Marking items as Featured can be used to visually show an important item and make it stand out from other items.
You can also configured the style of the "Featured" text etc to make it more fancy.
