Upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1 Fatal Error

Upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1 Fatal Error was created by ric alien
I get this once i try to upgrade - had to reinstall preiovious version. Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() /components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 56

Hi. You need to enable PHP's Multibyte String functions.

And how do we do that exactly?  In CentOS or RedHat, etc, just:

 

yum install php-mbstring
