I am using JCE 1.5.4 with K2 v2.1 and am having issues with the JCE UI not being visible during the Item edit mode. It works fine when adding an item, but the toolbars are completely gone during editing. I can go back to the default editor, but I'd really rather not. Suggestions?

Update -- This is not a consistent error. This behavior appears when copying items from another instance of JCE via select all.

Update 2 -- This is connected to the discussion on the tabs not working in edit mode. There seems to be a conflict using the JQuery libraries for Simple Image Gallery. Mootools libraries work fine.

There are some editing issues with the new K2. Try editing from the frontend to see if that works.

it doesn't work for me as well.. i'd love to use colorbox, it really impress me, but there is a conflict when trying to edit item. any sujestion?

Might want to try upgrading to the latest version of JCE 157-156. Works fine on a Joomla 1.5.15 site once you set the default editor to JCE.
