attachments problem was created by Dick Tracy
IE and Opera both are not showing pdf files and strangely encoded .txt files both when opend and when downloaded
They all read and open correct in Firefox and Chrome

It seems that when linked to the file directly, all files show up correct in all browsers. And download accordingly
But through de attachments manager (which alters the download link url) this problem appears in IE and Opera.

So it's morelikely to be a problem with the url handeling.

*Q: Is there a way to switch of the url handeling (*altering) of the attachments manager so it simply links to the files directly (to the exact file location instead of www.mysite.com/category/item/download/26) ?

* Is there a possibility this is caused by sef?

*Sorry for my poor English

Hi. Just tested with a text file and worked fine with Internet Explorer. Can you please attach the file that is causing you the problem?

Thx for the reply,

Could you check the files online?
Same problem with all attachments sitewide.

problem with .txt and .pdf at:
www.vrijbit.nl/bezwaren/item/707-petitie-tegen-opslag-vingerafdrukken-volgens-paspoortwet

.txt file link by K2 attachmentmanager:
www.vrijbit.nl/bezwaren/item/download/30

Direct link to the same file:
www.vrijbit.nl/media/k2/attachments/tekst_petitie_.txt

Txt. files show up encrypted in IE & Opera
.PDF files give a error:
this file cannot be opened because it is damaged, or it is not properly decrypted after being send by Email.

Well something like that i translated it for you;)

Hi. I tried to open the text file from your link using Internet Explorer 8 and indeed it has an encoding problem but.... i downloaded and uploaded to my server and it worked fine in Internet Explorer. So i m not sure enough what's causing this. Maybe something with your server setup. Can you please post some info about your server?

Want to back up Mark in this matter....
this is to much of a flaw en takes all the fun out of K2's usabillity.

Dev team please look in to this, and take in considderation that this could be a Server OS related problem.

Hint:
People on MS servers (no problems with attachements)
People on Unix servers (Have problems with attachements))

Mark said:Guys, ive got the same problem that has been discussed in here. Ive added a PDF file too an article in K2 using the basic fileupload/attach function in k2. In Firefox i have no problem downloading and opening this file. In Internet explorer i can download the file but when i try too open it acrobat reader gives me the same error as listed above.
The weird thing is that when i view the file size of the file downloaded via IE its much smaller then the file i downloaded via FireFox. Plus when i change the extension of the file downloaded via IE too .zip and extract the .zip, the file will not have an extension. After extracting i add the .pdf extension and the file will open correctly...

The weird thing is that this only happens in IE.. It seems that file gets convered in some way.. Can a programmer/k2 specialist please look into this since this has too be fixed some way!

Thanks for your time!

I also get the same problem, where PDFs make an error when downloading on Internet Explorer and Opera.

IE8: Adobe Reader could not open 'filename[1].pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged'
Opera (XP and Ubuntu): The file is handled like a zip encoded file.

No problems:
Safari (XP), Firefox(XP), Chrome(XP)
Firefox (Ubuntu), Chrome (Ubuntu)

The server is running *nix. I hope this helps.
