Very large media folder!!! was created by Panos
OK here is my issue.
I made a catalog with 200 items. All working very well BUT there is an issue with media folder!!!
In the folder media>k2>items there are 2 folders (src and cache)
In the "src" folder there are all the images of the items and that is OK.
On the other hand, in folder "cache" there are 6 variations of each item image (Generic, XS, S, M, L, XL) and as you might guess this folder ("cache") is about 8 times larger than folder "src"!!!

Is that necessary?
How can we avoid that?

No one bother about that?
This is a very strong issue and it is about the capacity.
A website that depends on K2 with thousands of items can be HUGE because of that!!!

Well.just a hint.if u create ur items in a manner which u link ur images to siteroot/images/stories/myk2images,then photos will not be cached.but if u use k2 image uploader, they will be cached.so upload ur photos to above folder and then link ur items there.

Hi mehdi.
You cant do that, because when you create a new item, you have to put the image (in the second tab, after the content tab) and in this tab you have to upload the image from your pc.

Hi,

Just a tip, on K2's toolbar click on Parameters, here define the dimensions of the image sizes you want to use and in the rest, put zero so K2 will not create those sizes and will help in creating only the required images. After that, you can go to your categories and items to define which size of image to use where.

What I am worried about is the size of folder "K2_extended" which resides in the Joomla Cache folder, this is growing very fast and has generated thousands of files, all of which are PHP files.

Anyone know how to get rid of that?
