Show preview image for video was created by Mats Arvendal
Hi,
I have uploaded a FLV file to K2 and it works OK when using the AllVideosPlugin. This is how I did:
I checked the folder media/k2/videos on the server and I saw that the uploaded FLV file had been named "30.flv" which must be a name created by the system. I uploaded an JPG file showing the first frame on the video which I had named "30.jpg" and it worked just like when you use the plugin in an ordinary Joomla website.
BUT: This is rather difficult if you want to let your users upload a video. Is there an easier way to get the preview image to work?

Not as i know. And i searched Joomla extension site a lot.
Make a Youtube account and put all your videos there. Youtube has thumb preview default.

Ideally, when uploading the video could choose which image is the preview andautomatically generate.
You could use ffmpeg-php library and make an extension for k2. This is the theory, Ineed a little guidance to an extension for k2

In the meantime has anyone found an easier way for the preview image for videos in K2?
Thank you Mats Arvendal for the solution I can use for now.

Hello Monique,
There is a simpler solution. It requires some coding on your template though.
You can use an image extrafield, upload the screenshot of your choice and then with an absolute positioned <div> display it on top of your video. Finally you can add some JS functionality that hides the image when the user clicks on it.

I could almost swear that i saw few weeks ago an Firefox Add-on, button that takes thumbs from all videos, with exact size of video player. But i am not sure, needs check.
I mean, you click Play in video, or fast forward, and button takes screen shot from video player. Not perfect solution, but much, much faster then standard solution.

Using jw_allvideos plugin in an article, you simply put a jpeg with same filename alongside your video and the jpeg will show as preview image.
for example : /folder/myvideo.flv for the video file and /folder/myvideo.jpg for the preview image.
This works fine using the plugin in an article.
HOWEVER,
This doesn't work using videos in K2. I'm using the foler /images/K2/videos to put all my videos, and alongside my jpegs with same rootname but preview picture refuses to show.
I beleive that this is due to K2 coding pointing to /media/K2/videos.
I upload my videos via ftp to /images/K2/videos and then tell K2 to search for that video on the server. It does find that video, but it doesn't transfer the video to /media/K2/videos. Is this normal ?
IN any case, I'd like to have a solution to get my preview pictures showing instead of a blank black screen with a play button in the middle.
Thank you for any tips. !
