I think SEO is currently not the strongest part of K2.
Maybe we can all collect suggestions for improvements for Joomlaworks and provide each other with work arounds for the current version.
1. Categories have no meta tags
WA: Add them manually in the category description and they will appear in the header.
2. Long URL when you staple catagories. FI I have a catagory for a city, under it I publish a catagory for hotels. My urls ebcome like this: domain.com/city/hotels/item/hotel-au-mileu-du-citee
If I use joomla without K2 I can cut the url's short by using hidden menu's. With K2 however...
Any suggestions anyone on how to do this?
3. '/ITEM' in url's. I've tried Artio (which totally crashes on K2) and other scripts but cannot cut this part out. I want as few slashes and useless words in my url's as possible. Has anyone been able to cut the word ITEM and the slash out yet?
4. Using the upload option creates random image-names like 3hjb5634g6.jpg
I always give pictures meaningfull names as every bit in SEO counts. Does someone have a fix for this or does JoomlaWorks intend to change this in the future?
These are my thoughts so far.
Please add your thoughts and contributions towards better CEO for K2.

If you use SH404SEF you won't get "item" in the URL.

I am using SEFPATCH and never install the messy component SH404SEF. It creates errors and url's I don't want.

I've retried it many times before because so many people recommend and use it. But I still haven't found one positive thing about it. It created errors on every site I tried it on.

I'm using Artio Joomsef and K2 without problems.
My rewrited links are short, like
page/ID-categoryalias/article-alias
But I have problem with generating meta description and keywords. Some search engines are 'lazy' and look just for this two. Any ideas how to automate meta description and keywords?

I too have spent hours with meaningful names and image meta only to have it stripped out. I would be interested in a solution for this...

Hi Cathy!
I was looking for a similar solution (file names for images) and posted a reply on this thread about it:
Where K2 store articles images in database?

I also am interested in having K2 images with SEF names. Any ideas? Any word from the devs that this is in the "works"?

Any update on this? It seems that a lot of people are asking for it. I've spent hours to give my images search engine friendly filenames and now all I get is random alphanumeric strings as filenames.. On top of that I get no 'alt' text. I'm using K2 + SIG so I'm not sure who's to blame.

Has everyone using K2 just given up on SEF image naming/alt tag/title tag/keywords?
