You can disable this is on many levels. I think it can be globally disabled if you go to the parameters icon on the top right side of the K2 control panel (components -> K2 look to the top right). There is a setting in the grouping "Layout & view options for user (author) pages".

Other places it can be disabled is in the category and item levels.

I hope this helps. I always forget to check the "Parameters" tab.

Not sure about the encryption question.
