I am hoping to use K2 to make an events page that lists the events in the order that they will happen rather than the order in which they have been added.  At the moment I am using an Extra Text field for the date.

 

Is there a way to do this with a dedicated date field and sort by that field?

It took a long, very long time but I found a solution that suits my needs in using the calendar component and module from Artetics. extensions.joomla.org/extensions/calendars-a-events/calendars/9148
Works fine and you can link calendar events to K2 items with a little bit of help from their great support team.
