I use the K2 categories in a semantic way. I want to set different articles of a category to a special look and group them with tagging. I cannot yet assign a K2 template to a tagged group or a single article. This may be a nice feature for the furture.

Currently K2 Templating is only assigned to a category and its contents.
You would have to either make changes to the core, or have a category per item with each category assigned its own template.

Not what you want to hear.

One category per item is not the optimal way, because design is not for function, function is for design. At the moment I use a separate Logo and a sub design for each category and cannot override the category template.

You could create multiple category templates.
We also have a plugin to enable per category template css too.

Have you tried using K2 templates in your Joomla template?
