I'm watching this thread as I have the same need. I agree - there are a lack of good choices.

I have the same issue.
First of all, you need some extra field in the event item to set the event's date and hour, but the extrafield types offered in k2 doesn't match the requirements for this duty... well, you can use a drop box for the day, another for the month and another for year and load them with all the possible values (1,2,3,4... for day / January,February... for month / 2010,2011... for year). Yep, i know, it's bizarre, inconsistent... but i can't find another way. And here comes the second issue... how can you make the item's date extrafields to work with the calendar??. The blog calendar is done to work with the item's creation date....
If anyone have a clue, please tell!!

What I did was:
Change CREATED date to EVENT date
Publish date stays current date
K2 Tools module to blog calendar to show your "event" category.
View my sample here of a choir blogs events!

Wow ! Nice one !
But, could you tell us a bit more ?
If I understand right, you've set up an additionnal field named event date, and you've modified the calendar module to call the additionnal field instead of the created date... ?
Could you tell us more about the code to change in the module ?
Hoping for answers,
Best regards,

I used the CORE k2 "created date" in the item as well as the core "Start publishing" date in item, no hacks. Is that cool or what!
You may want to use "Stop publishing" the date the events ends. You will only be able to get the first date of event on calendar, not longer than that. Shapes said:
