Problem with empty Categories was created by Markus Thiel
Hi!
I have a main category that contains all sub categories... now on the frontpage I dont want to show any items, only the subcategories but when I set number of items to 0 (zero) it wont display any subcategories!.. ?

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

OK, your main category, will you placing items in it?
If no, because all your items will be in sub categories, then set the catalog to mode to Yes. Doing this will display only items in that category, as there is no items, nothing will be displayed other than sun categories.

In your category parameters, check the Category view options/ Sub-category handling /Sub-category blocks and make sure that is set to show.

Check that and report back.

Thanks,

Simon

I am having this same problem! I have a category that contains only sub categories but NONE of the sub categories will display unless I publish an item to the parent category. I don't want or need any items in the parent category. Here is my structure:

Furniture>Lounge & Living Rooms>>Fabrics - The Sub Categories below will not show up unless there is an item in this category.>>>Fabric Series1>>>Fabric Series2>>>Fabric Series etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok so I have a work around for anyone who still has this problem. If you have a similar structure to the one mentioned above with a sub category that contains ONLY sub categories and no items, then hopefully this will help.

1. Create an item in your top sub category.

2. Create a title.

3. Don't put anything in the description of the item or upload an image.

4. Go to "Item view options in category listings" section on the right and click on the "Title" drop down.

5. Click on "Hide" to hide the title and then click Save or Apply.

6. Check the front end of your site and your sub categories should be visible!

Please let me know if you have any questions. These steps should work. They worked for me! Its like there is no item there at all.

Regards,

Andrew
