Are there any certain directories in the k2 root directory that need write access, CHMOD 777 ????

If you are getting a blank page turn error reporting to highest in Global Configuration/server tab and see if you can get an error that will point you in the right direction

This is the error I receive when trying to view an item via front-end on the site...

check Help - System Info - Php settings to see wether or not it is enabled

If someone comes by looking for a more definitive answer than this, and is having trouble with mbstring running your own CentOS server, just do:

 

yum install php-mbstring
