The view=item doesnt display a readmore because your already there. I do "see" the readmore button in your example though. It must be coming from somewhere else...Does your template have k2 overrides in effect. If so, they may be different..
Try searching the files in templates/YourTemplateName/html/com_k2 for "read more" and see what you find if those files exist.
