Image File Sizes being increased was created by Lynne LaMaster
I'm always careful to optimize my images before uploading them. I also size them correctly for the slideshow on the home page.
We've discovered that when I upload an image that is, say, 45kb, it changes the file size to 120kb. That's a big change!
Is there any way to prevent that change?
The website is: www.prescottvalleyenews.com

Hi Lynne,
Now that's an interesting question and one I just tested.
I uploaded a jpg as an item image, original size = 54.2kb. 540x360px
Saved and published item.
Went to front side, right click image and saved.
Image size now 26.4kb 230x153 this is the resized cat image.
Full size Item image is 128Kb but 600x400px. Although its dimensions are little larger than the original uploaded file, this factor is right for the file size.
Some further investigation is needed.

Yes, I should clarify a few things.
1. Images I upload are always sized exactly right for my slideshow - 530x300. The dimensions don't need to be resized at all.
Here are some recent examples of size changes: 37k to 115k
20k to 70k
41k to 74k
This happens for the slideshow on the front page, as well as the images in the story. It even happens when I upload an image through, say, JCE's image manager.
______
I have another site - www.prescottenews.com that doesn't use K2 (yet). It does, however, use Front Page Slide Show.
Any images I upload for FPSS, it increases the file size to somewhere from 2.5 to 3.5 times larger.
However, any image I upload via JCE's image manager and embed into the story, it maintains the file size that I set it to before I upload it.
So, presumably it could have something to do with image management in some sort of JoomlaWorks code that is consistent between the products?
Hope this helps. I love K2, by the way. Just wish there were sidebar capability.
