I have an active blog running on my site and would love to be able to notify people who have left a comment on a post as well as the author when a new comment is added to that post.  Is there any way to accomplish this?

Sure K2 Multi Notify can handle this...

Comment authors have to manually subscribe to new comments. Item author will automatically receive new comment notifications in the default configuration of the extension.
