how about your backups? where are they stored? Joomla can accumulate backups that backup backups, on and on...you might look at that...also if you have access to your server, run this command via ssh to find some possible tmp files that are excessive...

find / -type f -size +50000k -exec ls -lh {} \; 2> /dev/null | awk '{ print $NF ": " $5 }'

I would seriously consider using akeeba if i were you, in order to get each site backed up and have the opportunity to use the backups to switch servers if the need arises. their kickstart is magic!

I agree with william about using akeeba...i use the "pro" version but they have a freebie also...they also have a "admin pro" extension for joomla that allows you to update your core joomla installation with the push of a button.
If @william is complementing my writing...thank you!

I don't know where they would put their daily backups (rochen)...are you the server admin or do they manage that? either way, you should be able to track down the large files on the server and see if they are needed. If not needed, they can easily be removed, thus making backups smaller...also, you can rotate the backups so they do not accumulate...
