I've just successfully installed K2 on Joomla 1.5.22 only to get an error when adding a category:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in /home/element/public_html/administrator/components/com_k2/tables/k2category.php on line 49

Is there a checklist of pre-requisites for K2 that I can check? Maybe some settings on the server?

I havent seen a checklist, but the k2 information tab will tell you lots...

Have mv_internal... enabled by your host

increase the php max timeout and max upload a bit

only use sigpro, dont spend time trying to make sigfree work

when something breaks or doesnt work....turn sef off and try again

set error reporting to highest to speed finding the problems

Just to clarify, your php.ini file is not loading mbstring.  Ask your hosting provider about this.

Thanks to Terry and William! I am talking with my provider, starting with the php.ini to see if that is enough. If not I'll continue on to the rest of the list William provided.
