What are the future strategy of K2 development consider coming 1.6-1.7 versions of Joomla? In Joomla 1.6 we have an structure of categories and an extended access control. This means basically that it is possible to achieve K2 functionality based on the core Joomla database, instead of the present K2 specific database. In todays K2 database items table is a copy of Joomla article table, Categories is off course new in K2 and Users are new with User-groups but core Users table is kept within K2. With Joomla 1.6 it is now possible to integrate K2 data in Joomla database, base K2 on the core Joomla database with the additional K2 fields added.
